Grant Thornton strengthens indirect tax advisory with new partner

The increasing complexity of VAT, customs, and duties has led Grant Thornton to expand its specialist advisory team with the appointment of Jens Staugaard as partner and head of Indirect Tax.

Danish companies are facing ever more complex regulations and stricter documentation requirements in the areas of VAT, customs, and duties. This has driven a growing demand for specialist advice – prompting Grant Thornton to reinforce its indirect tax practice by bringing Jens Staugaard on board as partner and head of the team.

Jens Staugaard joins in June 2026, bringing over 25 years of experience and deep technical expertise from his time at the former Danish Customs and Tax Administration, as well as his recent role leading the VAT department at Revitax. Jens has also served for many years as an external lecturer at Copenhagen Business School, where he has taught VAT law at the master’s level.

A stronger position in the market

With this appointment, Grant Thornton further strengthens its position in VAT, customs, and duties advisory—an area that is becoming increasingly important for businesses across industries, especially as international trade expands, regulatory requirements tighten, and supply chains grow more complex.

– Companies are facing increasingly complex issues in VAT, customs, and duties, where mistakes can have significant consequences. As a result, we’re seeing a clear rise in demand for specialist advice in this area. With Jens joining us, we’re making a significant investment in expertise that is becoming ever more critical for Danish businesses, says Brian Rasmussen, CEO and Partner at Grant Thornton Denmark.

– As an advisor, Jens is thorough, business-minded, and committed to making complex VAT and duty regulations practical and actionable. He focuses on providing advice that is not only legally sound but also operationally useful for clients. Over the years, he has worked with both large and small companies on national and international matters. Jens understands that the best advice comes from combining technical excellence, commercial insight, and close collaboration, and we are delighted that he has chosen to continue his career with Grant Thornton.

Specialist advice is more important than ever

In recent years, indirect tax has become a strategic priority for many companies, where even minor errors can have major financial consequences and impact operations, trade, and compliance across markets.

This is one of the reasons Jens Staugaard is excited to join Grant Thornton:

– Regulations around VAT, customs, and duties are becoming ever more complex, especially for companies operating internationally or with intricate value chains. I look forward to joining Grant Thornton and helping to develop a practice where businesses increasingly need specialist, business-focused advice. After many years focusing on regulations, administrative practice, and technical assessments, I am also excited to work more closely with companies and engage directly in advisory and business development,” says Jens Staugaard.

– I’m also looking forward to leading a strong professional team that will help drive the practice forward. This is a constantly evolving field, where the need for specialization, business understanding, and cross-disciplinary collaboration is only growing. That’s why I’m excited to head up a department at Grant Thornton where we can both enhance technical quality and develop new ways of working together.

With this appointment, Grant Thornton continues to develop its specialist advisory services and further strengthens its position as a trusted advisor to Danish businesses.
